Since this was our first visit to Vida Cantina, we didn't know what to expect, so we were very pleasantly surprised. The food, being the main point, was excellent ~ surprisingly authentic for a Mexican restaurant along a commercial thoroughfare in Portsmouth, NH. The atmosphere was a bit noisy & bright if you're looking for romance, but the booth we sat in was very comfortable for the four of us and it really did remind me of some places I used to frequent in Mazatlan back in the 1970's. The service was also stellar...and, I guess it was a good thing we made reservations and ate a bit early in the evening, (6:30-ish ~ we had a play to get to after supper), because the line of folks waiting to get in just 15 mins after we were seated was quite long!
We decided to use Vida to do the catering for our wedding when we heard the ecstatic reviews from our family. And we fell in love with Vida at first bite. Dave is incredibly talented in the kitchen and has such a kind demeanor. We loved working with him and his team and couldn't be happier with how the food for our wedding turned out. Our guests went BANANAS over the flavor and said it was the best wedding food they'd EVER had! Thank you so much Dave and all of the staff that was a part of the best weekend of our lives!
Great for gluten-free folk, they'll work with you to see if you have an intolerance or something more severe and guide you accordingly. Always check out the specials menu, the chef is always making innovative, risky, downright intriguing new dishes. Cocktails are fantastic. Happy hour is worth checking out - you can get several of their most popular dishes at a deep discount. Probably my favorite place in or near Portsmouth.
I had the chicken enchiladas. They were delicious! The dish has a really good green sauce that has a slightly sweet flavor. We also had the goat cheese fundido, witch was also super good. When I'm in the area again, I'd love to come back.
Excellent tacos. A little pricey, but worth it. Try the blue cornbread. It's amazing.
